I have many memories of Nancy through the years.I not only went to school with Nancy, but I worked with Nancy for many years at Lanterman Developmental Center, and she was a friend. She worked for me in a program with adult developmentally disabled women. She worked there for probibly 36 years before she had to retire due to health reason's related to COPD. She was a hard working professional as a Unit Supervisor and was dedicated to meeting the needs of the some 42 patients she was responsible for. She passed away after a long illness related to her respiratory problems.
Nancy did not want a service upon her death. There was no obituary, and they had a private memorial in her home with family only. Her husband did call me and told me when she passed away.   She died in October 2009, on the 10th. Of course she was Nancy Hawley in our school days, but I knew her longer as Nancy Colgan. She died in her home in Claremont, she wanted it that way. She was married to a nice man who also worked at Lanterman Developmental Center in Pomona. She was very private person, spending all of her time at work or with her family. She enjoyed her family and her Occupation until the end. Her last fun time was her husband following up on his promise to take her on a cruise some day. A couple of weeks, or so, before she passed away he surprised her with the cruise she always wanted. I can not remember where that was.......but they went to the ship in a limo from Claremont and she told me it was a wonderful time and sent me a picture of her in the limo with her husband. That was the last time I heard from her.
She had a good family circle, and a career that she liked until the end, where she promoted a couple of times during her career, which made her very proud. We miss Nancy and appreciated the time we had with her.
