A 19-year-old man from Claremont lost his life Tuesday after getting into a traffic collision in Glendora. 

Luke Pruitt was riding his motorcycle on Mauna Loa Avenue and Grand Avenue Tuesday when he collided with an SUV, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. 

Pruitt had been playing football at Citrus College at the time of his death. He played his high school football at Claremont High School.

The crash took place when the driver of the SUV was making a U-turn on Grand. Pruitt was also traveling on Grand, the Glendora Police Department told the SGV Tribune.

It's unclear at this moment who was at fault for the deadly collision.



Citrus Owls mourn loss of Luke Pruitt

GLENDORA - Citrus College is mourning the loss of football player Luke Pruitt, who passed away Tuesday.

The sophomore was in his second season playing with the Owls as a defensive lineman and one of the Owls' team captains. 

"Luke was a defining presence for our program," said Citrus College Head Football Coach Brandon Hayashi. "He was a leader on and off the field, always greeting everyone with a big smile. We are devastated by this loss." 

Pruitt was a big presence on the Owl defense, tallying 34 tackles over the past two seasons, including 20 solo efforts. He made two sacks in Citrus' 14-10 victory over Antelope Valley to help the Owls get their best start to the season since 2007. 

The native from Claremont, Calif., was also an Academic All-State honoree as a freshman and a two-time Citrus College Scholar Baller. 

Citrus College Athletics sends its thoughts and prayers to the Pruitt family, Luke's friends and teammates, and the entire Owl community.
