My father in law is Kevin Morse, an alumni at your school. His younger brother was Benton, who tragically lost his life before he was able to graduate.

There was a fellow student who reached out to his family after his accident, an African American man who told his family that Benton changed his life. Apparently Ben would give him his lunch money every day because this young man had a mother and sister, they needed the money and this genteman would give Ben his lunch voucher. When Ben had his accident, this young man came to the hospital and left a recorded 8 track player by his bedside telling him what his contributions meant to him, despite Ben being brain dead.

After Benton’s death, this young man sought out the Morse family, a black man from strained conditions walking into an affluent white neighborhood, knocked on their door and explained to his father how Ben changed his life. With the money Ben gave him he was able to provide for his family, got stronger, made the football team and obtained a scholarship. The Morse family was overwhelmed, Ben’s father gave him his scooter and asked this young man to stay in touch.

Roger Morse (Benton’s father) has since passed away. The family, as I’ve mentioned, have recently revisited this touching story but unfortunately we don’t know this man’s name. We would love to reach out to him and express our thanks and see how his story has unfolded. It’s a touching story. Kevin (Ben’s brother) lost his wife of 42 years in February, she was there for Ben’s funeral. The family has been sentimental this past year and this is has been one of the best memories we’ve shared. We would like your help to find this incredible individual so we can reach out, these many years later, and let them know that their simple act of kindness is still deeply appreciated 40 years later. If you can help, it’d be an amazing honor and opportunity for our Morse family.

Thank you for your help. This man would have graduated ‘81-83, African American and was on the football team with potential scholarship opportunities.

Sincerely, Kristen M.
