DOVER, Delaware - Mark William Foresman of Dover died Saturday, April 28, 2001, in his home, surrounded by his entire family. He battled a rare form of cancer for nearly two years, during which he made a courageous and hopeful effort for survival. He was 40.
Mr. Foresman was born June 17, 1960, in Pomona, Calif., and grew up in Claremont, Calif., where he attended public and private schools. He earned his bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering at the University of Tulsa and worked in his field in Washington, D.C.
He met his wife in Alexandria, Va., before coming to Dover with Chesapeake Utilities Corp. in 1989, where he was manager of engineering for Eastern Shore Natural Gas.
An enthusiastic sailor since childhood, he enjoyed taking his friends and family aboard his sailboat "Entropy" for vacations on the Chesapeake Bay. He also enjoyed remodeling his home and working on projects with his son. Popular and known for his ready smile and kind wit, he was a loyal and steady friend to the many people who knew and loved him.
Mr. Foresman and his family are members of Grace Presbyterian Church in Dover. He was a registered professional engineer in Delaware, served on the building Committee for Campus Community School and was a member of Blue Hen Power Squadron. He was also a Sigma Chi alumnus, was involved in the Boys Scouts of America and with Science Alliance in local schools.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his young son, Graham; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Robert R. Foresman of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; his sister and two brothers, as well as their spouses and children, Gayl Foresman Beller, Scott Foresman and Guy Foresman, all of Orange and San Diego counties in Southern California; his mother-in-law, Beatrice O'Neil; and a sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law, as well as their spouses and children, Kelly Funk, Matthew O'Neil and Joseph O'Neil.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St. in Dover.
Memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Grace Presbyterian Church, 350 McKee Road in Dover. Pastor Jonathan Seda will conduct the service.
