David Cirilo Cervantes

Mar 14, 1958 - Feb 6, 2019

David Cirilo Cervantes passed away unexpectedly at his home in La Crescenta, CA, on Feb 6, 2019, age 60.

David lived in Claremont throughout his school years until leaving the area for college in 1976 and is fondly remembered by all who knew him.  Known to be a great listener, with a fun sense of humor and a big smile, he was always someone with whom one could share a conversation, a confidence or a big hug and good laughs. No matter how much time had passed or where their lives had taken them, around David his schoolmates could easily pick up where they’d left off, as lifelong friends.

David attended Chaparral Elementary School and La Puerta Junior High, graduating from Claremont High in 1976.  Throughout his school years he remained close to some he had met as early as 1st grade.  Joining up with local community and sports groups, he was active in Cub Scouts, Little League, scholastic baseball teams and local musical theatre.  One of the first families in the neighborhood to get an in-ground pool, the brothers loved swimming, Passersby on Radcliffe Drive would often hear the joyous sounds of pool parties emanating from the Cervantes Family back yard.

A “lefty”, David loved baseball and played the game from about the age of seven or eight…  up through his senior year in high school, he is remembered by team mates as a valued member of the Claremont High Wolfpack.

With his twin brother Carl, he performed in many Claremont High School Theatre Productions, including Damn Yankees, Anne of the Thousand Days, twice portraying twins onstage, in the King and I,  and even earlier on in The Prince and The Pauper, in which they earned the lead roles even before reaching Junior High School.  "I will always remember them as sweet eight year olds” said one of their older sister's thespian friends who often shared the stage with them.

After Graduating from CHS in 1976, David attended college in Northern California, living for a time in Chico, then later moving to La Crescenta, becoming active in politics and labor negotiations and quite proud of his role and career as a Union representative in his locality.

It is with heartfelt sadness that his classmates reacted to the news of David’s passing, and we will always remember him, along with his brother Carl, as the kind, talented guys we met so many years ago.

David, We will forever miss your winning smile and friendly hugs.

Rest in Peace.
