We were informed that Cancer was to blame for Kirk's death. We believe he was living in Hawaii at the time. If you have additional information, please be in touch. Thank you.
Those of us who knew Kirk were saddened to hear of his illness and passing last December..
He’s not one that I kept in close contact with over the years, but whenever our paths crossed he was always consistent with his kind and gentle nature. According to brother Eric, Kirk worked in construction in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for a few years, then returned back home where he flipped houses, worked for a time tending bar in Solana Beach, and then opened up Pizza Madness in La Verne with Kenny Schoenfeld.
Leaving Southern California, he moved to Canon City Colorado, where he opened two Pizza Madness restaurants, and a jazz club.. He left an imprint there that stands to this day..
He heard of an opportunity in Kihei, Maui, and flew over to have a look.. He told me he never went back to the mainland..
He opened Pizza Madness in Kihei, and became a fixture in the town.
Patty and I were in Kihei often over the last four years, and as a result we were able to catch up with him and tell each other our stories..
He was there 20 years, developed a loyal, long term group of employees, invested in properties, and cared for his mother in one of the homes he owned until her passing.. He was devoted to his many dogs, whom he loved deeply ..
He said he didn’t really know how, but good dogs found their way to him. I’m grateful I knew this mellow, generous and kind man, and feel fortunate to have crossed his path in these later years..
