Laura Ann Rostvold - Class Of 1968 VIEW PROFILE

Laura Ann Rostvold

May 20, 1950 - Jul 23, 2008

Laura Rostvold passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, following a gallant and prolonged battle with multiple sclerosis and cancer.

One of five children, she was born to Gerhard and Virginia Rostvold in Palo Alto, California. Her endearing family nickname was "Mattie" (after her Norwegian grandmother Olive Matilda).

Laura grew up in Claremont, California, and graduated from University of California, Irvine with a degree in English. Upon graduation, she took a temporary position with the Irvine Company, which blossomed into a fulfilling real estate career. She rose to Manager of Commercial Leasing, and earned accolades for her long service during the rapid development of Orange County in the 1970s and early 1980s. Laura ultimately pursued an entrepreneurial career (a shared family trait) in residential leasing, and remained active until the last few years when health issues arose.

Laura's passions included her love for travel, and hosting memorable Christmas Eve celebrations for family and friends in her beautiful home in Corona del Mar. She also found special joy in her last home at El Morro Beach, where her family spent many happy summers on the beach, playing cards and barbecuing. Most of all, Laura loved the company of family and friends. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and 18 years of sobriety, which she celebrated just weeks before her passing.

Laura is survived by her loving family, mother, Virginia Rostvold; brother, Roger Rostvold; sister, Christine Rostvold-Neff; niece, Anna-Karin Joachim; nephews, Erik Rostvold and Brian Shiokari, and great-nephew and niece, Jacob and Riley Joachim.

Laura will be greatly missed by all, but we know she's free from suffering and in good company in heaven with her dearly loved sister, Ellen Shiokari, brother, Andrew Norman and father, Gerhard.

Friends are invited to join Laura's family to honor Laura's life at a memorial service at Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary at 3500 Pacific View Dr. in Corona del Mar on Saturday, August 2 at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to NMSS - Southern CA Chapter, 2440 South Sepulveda Blvd., Ste 115, Los Angeles, CA 90064, or to CancerCare, 275 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10001, with note: In Memory of Laura Rostvold. Pacific View Mortuary

Laura and I were best friends in high school.  I'm so saddened to see that she has past away.  And also her sister Ellen.  My heartfelt condolences to the Rostvold family.

Well said, Jerry.

The Rostvold's and Kispersky's were close good friends and belonged to Good Shephard Lutheran Church in Claremont.  Great family and wonderful kids.

So sad to hear of Laura's passing. The last time I saw Laura she shared that she was struggling with MS. She gave me a warm neck pack she made out of rice,  I think of her every time I use it and I had wondered how she was doing.  Prayers to her family.
