Glenn Miller - Class Of 1969

Glenn Miller

Glenn Craig Miller, long time Claremont resident, passed away quietly in San Marcos on December 8, 2019.

Glenn was a beloved member of the CHS Class of ‘69, captain of the cross-country team, sports editor of the Wolfpacket, school record holder in the high jump, and "Outstanding Spirit” award winner for the class. His college plans were targeted toward careers in either journalism or education.

Three months after graduation, less than a month after his 18th birthday, Glenn was in a catastrophic automobile accident that left him in a coma for months and with serious injuries that caused partial paralysis and brain damage that affected him for the last 50 years of his life. After extensive rehabilitation, he supported himself as a gardener for as long as he was physically able, but lived a hard and painful life marked by the visible impairments. Throughout, he retained clear and happy memories of 1969, the best year of his life, and of the hundreds of friends who cherished him as a friend and teammate.

He was predeceased by his parents, Cathy and Glenn “Bud” Miller, former Woodshop and Architecture teacher at CHS, and survived by his sister, Peggy Miller, of Encinitas. In lieu of donations, the family asks that as a remembrance, friends seek out someone having a difficult time and find a way to recognize them and offer any kindness they can.

I was friends with Glen in high school.  We went to a few Dodger games together.  Good times.  Glen was genuinely  a "nice guy" ...a "good guy."  I sort of lost contact with Glen after high-school.  Then, out of nowehere, maybe 10 years later, he showed up at my house.  I forgot how he knew where I lived.  And, as a previous post indicated, Glen obvously had some physical problems due to the horrific accident he was in.  But Glen was upbeat and it was great to see him.  He showed up at a couple of my musical  performances in Claremont.  He left his jacket at one of those performances.   I still have it.  Occaisionally I see that jacket when I'm cleaning out my closet.  It makes me smile.  Rest in Happiness my friend.
