Age 94, a life-long resident of the Pomona Valley, CA area, died November 21, 2020 after a short illness. Mr. Dyer is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maxine; his children, Sandra Anderson (Ken) of Hesperia, Steven Dyer (Marina) of Buena Park, Donna Bernardo of Fontana and Paula Barajas (Luis) of La Verne; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his sister Marion and brother Richard.

Harold was born on January 25, 1926 at Pomona Valley Hospital to Gertrude and Fred Dyer. He attended Claremont schools and graduated from Claremont High School in 1944 where he lettered in football and was an "All American" athlete. In July, 1944 Harold joined the United States Army Air Forces. He was honorably discharged at the end of World War II in October, 1945. Harold continued his education after his service. He graduated in 1947 with an Associate of Arts from Chaffey College and in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts from La Verne College. He earned his Master's Degree from Los Angeles State College in 1960. He took continuing education classes at UCLA, Cal State Riverside, University of California, Santa Barbara and Pepperdine. Harold taught at Roynon Elementary School in La Verne, CA for 32 years. He retired from teaching in 1981.

He was a brilliant craftsman who could be found on any given weekend painting, repairing or building something for himself or one of his children or grandchildren. In fact, after 10 months of retirement he took those skills and, for the next 6 years, worked in the engineering department of La Habra Community Hospital and later for Hillcrest Homes in La Verne.

Harold loved to travel. He and his wife took their RV on many, many trips They visited all 50 states and took RV caravans to Alaska, Canada and Mexico. They traveled to Europe in 2010. They also enjoyed several cruises.

Harold was a devoted husband and father. He was a good-natured, gentle soul. I doubt anyone ever saw him in a "bad mood". He will be missed.
