Barbara Graf (Daniels)

Mar 1, 1935 - Apr 11, 2001

Barbara Daniels died peacefully at home in Fallbrook, on April 11, 2001. During her last few days she was under hospice care surrounded by family and friends. Barbara was born in San Diego on March 1, 1935. After graduation from high school in Claremont, she attended Stanford University until she married James Daniels. As the wife of a Navy pilot she traveled and lived in may different locations prior to settling down for good in Fallbrook. Barbara was a true Southern Californian with a steadfast love of the areas' gardening climate and lifestyle. After her children were grown she completed her formal education and received a bachelor's degree in botany from UCR. She then served as a docent at Quail Botanical Gardens for the final 13 years of her life. Her colleagues at Quail recently honored her with an award that noted, in part, "Her preparation of our annual index Seminum, and her responses to requests for seed, provide a vital link between QBG and botanical institutions around the world." Barbara was a devoted wife and mother who also had a life-long passion for plants and gardening. She loved the beauty of nature. Everywhere she lived she left thriving plants and beautiful gardens when she had to move on. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James Daniels; daughters Christine Gorum of Conroe, Texas and Karen Cipolla of Arroyo Grande; brother Roderic Graf of Claremont; and five grandchildren.

Barbara will be greatly missed.

A private memorial service is planned.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Quail Botanical Gardens; PO Box 23005, Encinitas, CA 92023-0005.
