Sandra "Sandy" Peterson (Ball) - Class Of 1965

Sandra Sandy Peterson (Ball)

Deceased AUGUST 21, 2004

From Judith "Judie" Heminger Dye

Sandy had post-polio problems and seizures as a child. She had been sheltered by her parents. She married fellow classmate Robert Ball, and had two beautiful girls. She divorced him before her second daughter was born, and raised the two girls by herself. Even with her disability, she rode the bus to CAL POLY Pomona, and obtained her masters in special education. She became a teacher in Pomona for special education children, and established an academic system, by which her kids could prepare, be accepted, and attend college. It was called Project Turnabout. She worked with professors, colleges, and state government to provide this service for the kids who wanted to achieve. She even attended national conferences for the disabled of America, and contributed greatly to the acceptance of these children into mainstream education and careers. She passed away sometime around 2005, from exposure to leadbased paint and asbestos.

Sandy was truely an inspiration to what can be done when you put your mind to it, and go full speed ahead.
