Memorial services for Lieutenant Col. Henry "Hank" Cord Meyer III will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 20, at Seaver House, Pomona College in Claremont. Col. Meyer died Feb. 17 from a stroke. He was 57.

Laguna Beach was home to Col. Meyer, at least when he wasn't away at college, law school or serving in the U.S. Army. Col. Meyer, who retired from the army, was an active reserve officer at the time of his death.

"He specialized in armored warfare in the army," said retired U.S. Marine Col. Charles Quilter of Laguna Beach. "After he retired he was part of a team that worked on computer simulations of tactical ground force operations for both the army and the marines." Quilter, who was the Marine Corps historian for Desert Storm, shared his research on ground operations with Col. Meyer. "He was brilliant," Quilter said.

Col. Meyer was born March 16, 1946 in New Haven. Conn. He was the son of Helen and Henry Cord Meyer Jr. The Meyers moved to Laguna in 1969.

Col. Meyer graduated from Pomona College, where he studied international relations and theater lighting and played rugby. He earned a law degree at the University of Denver. His affiliations included Chameleon Multi-Media Co., of which he was the managing director; UC Irvine Extension Advisory Board in communications and network engineering; and the Laguna Beach Communications Committee.

Col. Meyer is survived by his brother Christopher, city manager of Fullerton; sister Dallas Celecia, president of M2 Marketing and Management; sister-in-law Janny Catlin Meyer, a teacher; and brother-in-law Robert Celecia, president if R.C. Associates.

Donations in Col. Meyer's name may be made to Laguna Greenbelt, Inc. or Claremont Friends of the Library.
