James Marvin Stewart - Class Of 1966 VIEW PROFILE

James Marvin Stewart

James M. Stewart, 57, passed away Sept. 19, 2006, at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon.  Jim was a former resident of Wrightwood for more than 20 years, and had lived in Selma, Ore., since 2002.

Born in 1948, in Glendale, Jim was raised in Claremont, where he graduated from Claremont High School in 1966. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17 for a three-year tour of duty. A veteran of foreign wars, Jim served for 12 months in South Vietnam from 1968 to 1969, working as a maintenance-mechanic.

On May 3, 1973, Jim married Sylvia Maxwell and they planted their roots in the Wrightwood/Phelan area. Jim and Sylvia recently celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary. Together, they raised their lovely daughter Harmony, who was the light of Jim's life. Jim was an electrician and worked for Sierra Pacific Electric in Rubidoux for more than 20 years. Upon his retirement in 2002, Jim and Sylvia moved to their new home in Oregon. Jim's loves and hobbies were his wife and daughter, romping with his beloved grandsons, fishing, UCLA football with his Dad, raising horses and gardening with his wife, NASCAR and collecting antique marbles. He especially liked to work with his hands, building three homes with his Dad and drilling water wells with his best friend and neighbor, Walt. Over the course of 10 years, Jim completed his retirement dream home for himself and Sylvia in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sylvia, who taught biology at Serrano High School; daughter and son-in-law Harmony and Sean Williams of Gig Harbor, Wash.; two young grandsons, Beck and Chance; parents, Joseph and Dorothy Stewart of Wrightwood; sisters and brothers-in-law Janet and Bob Gonzalez of Victorville and Jenise and LTC John Cantlon of Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

A family memorial service was held Sept. 25 at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Grants Pass, Oregon, followed by his burial. The family requests any donations to be given to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
