I always called him "Donnie"- he was such a cute little boy, who grew up to be such a nice young man. His mother-Mary and Father Don were close friends of mine, as was his sister, Arleen. Donnie was living in the Carson City, Nv. area, when he became ill, he kept his illness from his family as long as he could, when they found out, Donnie was gravely ill. I remember getting the call from Mary-saying that Donnie had passed, I was so hurt and felt terrible, but I know that Donnie is at peace now along with his mom and dad.

I arrived in Calremont in 1955.  Through school Don and I became very good friends.  I left Clremont in 1961 and returned to NY State (Mom and Dad said I had to go with them)!    For the years I spent in Claremont, Don was one of my best friends.  I learned of his passing a few years ago.  So, although it has been about 57 years ago, I still remember and think of Donald Mills.

It was my first day working as a store clerk at Jacksons' Wine and Liquors when I first met Don.   It was 1973 and we were both attending Cal Berkeley.  It did not take long before I became smitten with him. He was so handsome and vain about his looks; he was smart and outgoing; and just curious about everyone he met and especially curious about land use, geography and the natural environment.  Before long we moved in together, and I had the opportunity to meet his wonderful parents. Upon graduating from Cal Berkeley with a double major in Criminal Justice and Geography, Don became the store manager of Jacksons and contemplated going to graduate school.  Upon my graduation from Cal it became evident that we had different goals in life.  He was a "West Coast" guy and I was an "East Coast" gal, and as a result I returned to Long Island, NY, but we kept in touch.  During the next few years, we both got married to other people, Don moved to Carson City, NV and I to Boston, MA.  By the summer of 1979, both of us were in the process of ending our marriages and Don sent me an airline ticket to visit him.  He was excited to show me a house he was building in the hills of Carson City and to introduce me to his two bull terriers.  We had a great weekend, and that unfortunately was the last time I saw Don.  We still kept in touch and sometime during the Spring of 1986 he called my parents house in an effort to reach me, and left his number.  I unfortunately misplaces his number and thought he would eventually call me again, but he never did.  Since then I have been searching for a way to contact him until I found this site and learned that he had passed 32 years ago.  I am just devastated, he will always be the love of my life and in my heart, Rest In Peace Donald Mason Mills Jr.
