A resident of Claremont for many years, Craig was born in Berkeley, California, moved to Claremont in 1947, and attended Claremont schools (Oakmont Elementary and El Roble Intermediate) graduating from CHS in 1964. After completing his freshman year at Oregon State University, in Corvallis, Oregon, he earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from San Diego State College in 1970.

Following university, he served with the US Army 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam from 1971 to 1973. After leaving the service he took master’s level classes at Mt. San Antonio College in Pomona and worked at several different part-time jobs.

The last job became full time as a census data collector for the US government, a position which he held for many years. Craig enjoyed hiking, biking, and all sorts of sports. As one of his hobbies, he had a true passion for creating cryptic crossword puzzles, and he was a regular contributor to the New York Times Crossword Puzzle Forum.

Craig is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Diana Fowler in Cap d’Ail, France, and their two children in VA, USA, and several cousins in the southern California, Utah and Montana.
