Fred Holliday died July 29, 2005, at his home in Chino Hills at the age of 64. Fred was born in Pasadena on November 13, 1940, and had resided in Claremont for many years prior to building and moving into his dream horse ranch in Chino Hills. He had graduated from Claremont High School in 1959 and then spent many years building and operating, along with his father and his son, the family owned business, Holliday Rock.

As reported on its website, Holliday Rock has been in the constructions materials business for nearly seventy years and is one of the largest independent producers of aggregate, concrete and asphalt in the United States. A perennial Top 100 producer of Sand and Gravel, Holliday was ranked 58th out of approximately 3,700 companies in the year 2005 (According to the 2005 USGS Mineral Industry Survey). Holliday is currently 39th for The Concrete Producer’s annual top 100 list. Holliday operates seven aggregate plants, eight hot mix asphalt plants, and thirteen ready mix concrete plants. These plants service San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, Kern and Orange Counties.

In addition to building a business, Fred was a member of the SoCal Miniature Horse Club and the Pacific Coast Miniature Horse Club. He and his daughter were the only Father-Daughter team showing miniature horses together. Fred was an avid equestrian and hunter and spent lots of time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Fred is survived by his wife of 42 years, Penny; his son and daughter in law, John and Jodene of Claremont; daughters Laura of Claremont and Aimee of Chino Hills; a sister and brother in law, Peggy Ann and Mel Bubier of Claremont; his grandchildren Adam, Jillian, and Emma, all of Claremont; and a nephew Tim Bubier of Rancho Cucamonga.
