Oct 30, 1943 – Feb 9, 2011 

James “Jim” Howell Scott, a loving father, grandfather of nine, friend to everyone, #1 fan, coach, and optimist passed away unexpectedly from colon cancer.  Jim was born Oct. 30, 1943 in Pomona, CA to Paul Jerome and Francis Howell Scott.  He grew up in Claremont, CA spending much of his time helping his father at the Claremont Inn.  Upon graduating with a degree in accounting from Pomona College, he worked for the Internal Revenue Service and in real estate.  Jim joined a ski club, in which he made many lifetime friends and met his wife.  On July 20, 1974, he married Marian Lucy Hanna, a teacher at Campolindo High School in Moraga, CA.  They raised three children in Pleasant Hill, CA.  Jim loved being involved in every aspect of his children’s lives as a coach on the soccer field, volunteer in the school including PTA president, a scout leader, and avid photographer of their swim meets, volleyball games, and band concerts. 

His love extended beyond his family to touch everyone that he met.  Jim had an easy going attitude that put others at ease.  He enjoyed swapping stories, sharing a laugh, and encouraging others in their endeavors.  Jim welcomed all into his family and continued attending local sporting events long after his children had left home.  He cherished the important moments in life by making people his priority through his quiet acts of service.  Jim was a photographer extraordinaire, who always had his camera in his pocket ready to capture priceless memories at a moment’s notice.  He would spend hours recording the details of each picture or video and compiling them to share with many happy recipients.  Jim enjoyed good natured competition whether an intense croquet match or a cutthroat game of hearts. He was the center of his grandchildren’s universe because he was patient, silly, and took the time to make each one feel special. 

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Marian; children, Brian H. Scott (Jada) of Provo, UT, Mark J. Scott (Rebecca) of Provo, UT, and Jennifer M. Scott King (Brenton) of Orem, UT; grandchildren, Hannah, Kaylin, James, Sarah, Ashley, Carson, Matthew, Madison and Audrey; and siblings, Sue Scott of Medford, OR, and Peter Scott of Pine Valley, CA.

State Street in Orem, UT 84058.  Funeral service will be held on Sat., Feb. 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary.  Interment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Hills in Provo, UT.
