One man dies and four other people are injured in auto accident in western Fontana

- Fontana Herald News

A 20-year-old man died and four other people were injured in an automobile accident in western Fontana in the early morning hours of July 26, authorities said.

At about 1:18 a.m., Denes Kantor, a resident of Rancho Cucamonga, was the driver of a silver 2007 Mini Cooper traveling eastbound in the 15300 block of Foothill Boulevard at a high rate of speed.

Kantor lost control of his vehicle, which veered into the westbound traffic lanes and struck a white 2003 Honda Civic traveling westbound, the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner's Division said.

Kantor was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 1:57 a.m.

The Honda was driven by a 24-year-old from Hesperia and a total of four people were in that car. All four of them were transported to a hospital with significant, but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Fontana Police Department.

The Mini Cooper had major roll-over damage. The Honda Civic had major front end damage.

The Fontana P.D. is investigating the incident.
