A driver who died in a fiery crash in Novato last month has been confirmed as a 53-year-old Santa Rosa man, the coroner's office said Wednesday.

Hans Hunter Kindt was identified through dental evidence, said sheriff's Lt. Keith Boyd.

The cause of death and the crash itself are still under investigation. Boyd declined to comment on whether it was possible to conduct toxicology tests on Kindt, which would determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the wreck.

The crash occurred at about 6:40 p.m. April 13, when Kindt was driving a Honda at high speed in the fast lane of northbound Highway 101, the California Highway Patrol said.

The Honda veered across all lanes of traffic to take the Highway 37 exit, then struck a concrete overpass support and burst into flames. The car landed on its roof, and Kindt was trapped inside.

Kindt was dead by the time the fire was extinguished, the CHP said.
