Davis Gilbert Gil Whiteside

Davis Gilbert Whiteside, 83, passed away July 2, 2013, in Indio, Calif. following a lengthy illness. 

Gil was born to Davis and Naomi Whiteside on April 16, 1930 in Pomona, Calif. He was raised in Claremont and Alta Loma, Calif. U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Uvalde (AKA-88), a supply ship, during the Korean War. After the war, Gil enrolled in engineering classes at Chaffey College and completed his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Southern California in 1960. In 1961 Gil went to work as lead engineer for Pascal & Ludwig, Inc. He was promoted to project manager and worked on many large scale reservoirs, water treatment plants, pump stations and sewer improvements for municipalities throughout Southern California. He left the firm in 1985 and worked as an independent contractor until 1990. He retired and moved to Indio, Calif., where he helped his wife run her florist shop, Katrina's, until 2002. 
 
Gil married Patricia N. Bloom in 1957 and had two daughters. In 1967, Gil and Patricia were divorced. Gil married Kathleen (aka Katrina) D. Blyenburg in 1968. 
 
Gil enjoyed his pets, rose garden, watching sports (especially USC football) and deep sea fishing for albacore in Mexico. 
 
Gil was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Katrina. He is survived by his daughter Katie Whiteside; daughter Terry Whiteside (Tony Hudgins), grandson Cullen D. H. Whiteside, sister Merideth (Donald) Parker; nieces Ann (Ted) Hibbs, Eileen (Kenneth) Scarbrough; nephews David (Eva) Wilkins; Ross (Jeanne) Wilkins and seven great nieces and nephews. 
 
Services will be private with interment at Riverside National Cemetery. As a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, Gil will be missed
