In Memory

Dianna Woy (Nichols) - Class Of 1963

Dianna Woy (Nichols)

May 28, 1945 - Jan 22, 2025

After 4 1/2 years of surviving stage 4 cancer, Dianna was ready to stop treatment and "get out of this body" to quote her own words. After 1 week on home hospice, Dianna passed Wednesday evening January 22 at 11pm. It was peaceful and almost certainly without pain. During this process, she looked as beautiful and ageless as ever. That's the truth. Even in repose, she looked relaxed and at ease. I know she will be missed by all, and with good reason. She was so full of love and laughter. She will forever be in our hearts.

Even though this was not unexpected news I am sadden to hear of Dianna's passing.  During all her struggles with cancer, she was a WARRIOR!!!!  She was my friend from elementary school until the day she passed.  She will remain my friend until we meet again standing before God where she is now pain free. Thank you Dianna for all the joy, strength, courage, and friendship you gave not only to your family, but anyone who was blessed to call you a friend.  Your body may be gone, but your soul and spirit will remain with those of us who believe. God's grace and peace be with you Dianna.

Love, Dave Scott

I was so sorry to hear about this.  I got her email a couple of weeks ago and had to try to get through a gate to send an email it was funny and she would have liked it.  Her personality was such that she always loved to laugh and everyone loved her laugh.  We all went to Piano Piano after one of the reunions and had a great time, and then met at Walters last time and had a great time. This one was difficult for me because we were always good friends, maybe not in contact all the time, but when we did see each other, it was like we had never not been there.  I am glad she is not in pain anymore, and she will be missed.  Robbie

I am one of many of us who have had the privilege of Dianna’s friendship since kindergarten.

Over the years we’ve shared so many memorable times together, many hysterical, that I will treasure forever.  The repeated theme in everyone’s response to this news is what a good friend she was to all, what a warrior, what a sense of humor, she was all of that and more.

We saw each other as much as possible over these last few years, texted or talked every few weeks. During these last 4yrs with all the on going treatment, side effects, she faced them all head on with humor & laughter. I remember when her hair started coming back in after chemo, it was dark brown & curly, not her previous redish/blonde color,  she was describing to me over the phone, & she said “think pubic” .   I am convinced that her attitude, her support group of love from her husband, family, & countless friends is what got her through these 4+yrs.

So my dear friend I know you are pain free & lighting up heaven with your smile & laugh.  You are loved by so many & will be missed so much.. thanks for all the years of friendship, laughs & love.

Love you

Judy

It saddened me to hear this news. Dianna left this world without touching so many who saw such a bright light. She is pain free resting in the arms of Our Lord. My deepest Condolence to her family and to all who knew her as a friend. It is said that Angels walk among us, she was one of those.

With tears rolling down my cheeks, I reflected on Dianna's passing and was soon smiling as I reminisced about all the laughter and camaraderie she fostered during all of our reunion committee meetings. I got to "really" get to know Dianna after I joined the Class of '63 Reunion Committee for our 25th .  Her gift was promoting laughter through gestures, contorted expressions, crazy stories and irreverent comments!!! "Born silly and had a relapse" was the perfect quote written under her yearbook photo.  I truly believe her life was extended after a heartbreaking diagnosis due to her humor, along with her husband and sidekick....Bill Madden. What a team they made! They alleviated stress and helped release an abundance of endorphins among everyone in the vicinity. She shared that the medical personnel involved with her many treatments and tests looked forward to all the laughter they created together.❤️ Those she left behind are forever changed for the better because she showed us how to live in the moment.....and laugh with abandon.

Dianna was indeed both funny and fun!! She could always see the humorous side of life. I, too, knew her since kindergarten but we were also neighbors on San Antonio Avenue (now known as Towne Avenue). We didn't have a neighborhood school or park. Condit School wasn't opened until 1958 and by then members of the Class of '63 were eighth graders at El Roble Middle School. Our playground consisted of orange groves and rock piles, the foothills and Webb Canyon and the Sumner Avenue wash. Dianna and I were in and out of each other's houses and along with other friends always found ways to amuse ourselves. You couldn't miss with Dianna as a playmate. She was also a loving and caring friend and I'm so grateful for the many wonderful memories of a life long friendship.
