About me/us (Hobbies, interests, life philosophy, etc.) :

During my seventh grade year, Art Reitnouer introduced me to the hobby of amateur radio. I have been active ever since.

Former Claremont High School record holder at two miles, three miles, six miles, 5K, 10K, and half-marathon (13 miles). Yep. I competed/completed in races at all of those distances before graduating CHS in 1960, all against adult competition. I never really got up to speed until about three miles into a race.

I graduated CHS with exactly sixty units; one unit short and it would have been summer school for me and I would have been Class of '61. Of course, I hardly ever studied for any course...simply winging it.

At age 70, I attended Yuba College here in northern California, studying Addiction Counseling. I made the Deans List as a full-time student.

Latest update: Covid Survivor

Who else in your family is a CHS Alum?

Brother - Conley Angle - Class of '52
Brother - David Angle (deceased) - Class of '53

Favorite School Story:

The night we raided Webb School in The Great Cherry Bomb Incident. Are there any survivors of that still around?

And since I still have space in this box, I shall now enter three names.

Marilyn
Christine
Leslee

Some classmates you never forget.

What teacher inspired you the most & how has it affected your life?

Marge Noble, without a doubt. I began writing professionally during my junior year and I have not yet stopped. Writing is my what I do best. And it sometimes pays well.

Celebrated my 75th birthday on May 22nd. Still alive and well! And enjoying my counter-culture mountain man lifestyle. I don't own any fancy businesses or beach houses or play tennis but I get along quite well and expect to live into my 90s. The month before we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. Next week I head high up into the Cascade Mountain Range for three weeks of photography. My wife, son, and daughter-in-law are all Social Workers and I am a professional geographer and writer with four college degrees and certifications as a Firefighter, Medic, and Commercial Pilot. It is a good life and sure beats high school.

As long as I am being loquacious, I shall recall three names. Marilyn, Chris, Leslee.
They were the class of 1960 young women.

Two things that I remember most about Coach Lynn was that he was always very calm.  Some coaches are shouters and some are motivators.  Coach Lynn was a great motivator. And he understood the love of running that motivates distance runners. At the end of my senior year, just before graduation, I completed a half-marathon race, fourteen miles, which I personally dedicated to Coach Lynn.

After high school, I entered military service. In 1964 I returned to Claremont and worked for several years as a sports writer for the Pomona Progress-Bulletin. What I noticed immediately was that Coach Lynn had evolved his distance running coaching techniques and was producing more and more very successful runners. Change can be difficult for coaches but Hal Lynn stayed on top of the best methodologies of the moment.

It was also a pleasure to watch Hal Lynn, the batchelor, evolve into Hal Lynn, the family man.

RIP, Coach.
