We have been unable to locate an obituary but have been told by someone close to Mike, that he died on Oct 20th in Oceanside, CA, of pancreatic cancer. If you have additional information to share please let us know.
I vividly remember one day after suiting up for Coach Keiser's PE class when he asked Mike (with dismayment) "what are on your knees"? Mike replied, "surfer knobs, they're surfer knobs, coach". Aterwards, Coach Keiser would often say "men take a lap, Buentgen you go with them".
Mike and I spoke a few times during his illness, more particularly during the month prior to his death. He was just as kind as always, texting me information to help me with my impending move again, here in Carlsbad.
He was up beat and positive and will always remember that about him, besides the surfing and his charming good looks.
