Marsha Jean Tager (Newsum) - Class Of 1955

Marsha Jean Tager (Newsum)

May 20, 1938 - Mar 16, 2012

A Memorial Service for family and friends of Marsha Jean Tager Newsum will be held at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. She passed away Friday, March 16, 2012, at the age of 73.

Born in North Hollywood, CA on May 20, 1938, Marsha was the only daughter of Benjamin Nathan Tager and Nan Cox Tager, both of whom immigrated to the United States and passed through historic Ellis Island. As a first generation American, Marsha had the unique experience growing up in a culturally and spiritually diverse home; Latvian Jew and Scottish Protestant. Marsha would often laugh about the seemingly incongruous approaches to life, which could make for a very colorful home!

Marsha grew up in Southern California, and early on showed herself to be an aspiring artist. Always very creative, Marsha began painting with oils and canvas alongside her mother, Nan when she was about 8 years old. Painting, especially large works of art in watercolor and mixed media, would be a lifelong passion for Marsha. Being an active member of the Chico art community for over 40 years, Marsha painted distinctive, impressionistic canvases, full of vibrant colors and bold lines.

Coming to Chico to pursue both art and teaching in the early 50's, Marsha re-located with her family to Paradise. While moving into their new home, she met Paul Eugene Newsum from the moving company Paradise Transfer. They were married in 1958, in the same home where they first met. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage together, with two children and three grandchildren.

Marsha is survived by her husband, Paul; daughter, Lisa and son-in-law, Chris; son, Paul Andrew and daughter-in-law, Tammi; and her three beloved grandchildren, Isaac, Carly and Ellie.

Interment will be in Newton-Bracewell Chico Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be made to Paradise Hospice House in care of the funeral home.
