Gwendolyn was popular, athletic, beautiful, and artistic. Yet she was kind and unpretentious. Reading about her passing, brought back a flood of school memories. So many I wouldn't know where to start or end.

I recall meeting her for the first time, proms, and many other places and events. Evidence of her athleticism was her ability to shoot and sink a basketball from half court, which she did a number of times at CHS basketball half times. Buried in a box that had come from my mother's house, some years ago, I came across a magnificent drawing  she had made for me, that had unknowingly and miraculously survived the decades and many moves.

Another impossible sounding event was when one night she and I encountered and spied on burglars breaking in to her neighbor's house on 12th Street. At one point they unknowingly walked a few feet from us, as we hid behind yard plants. Then, with her stepfather's help, we confronted them in the street while the police were called. If we had known better the dangers?

Gwen was a major part of one of my life's most formative years.  Things that mattered and helped shape me.

After graduation, she went to Japan, and I never saw her again, except for a momentary chance meeting at a restaurant, some years later.

Although it's sad to know she's gone, I'm pleased to read that she lived a good life and had a great family.

God Speed Gwendolyn!
