El Espiritu 1999 - Jeffrey's sophomore year

Jeffrey Carman, Class of 2001, passed away on February 13, 2019 at the age of 36 due to natural causes.

Jeffrey Carman was born in Pomona, California and raised in Ontario before moving to Claremont in 1992. He attended Chaparral Elementary School, El Roble Intermediate School, and Claremont High, graduating in 2001. In high school, he was a member of the debate team and enjoyed various subjects, but history was his favorite. He was an avid drummer and a fan of 90’s grunge music.

Following graduation, he attended UCLA, graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. As a sophomore in college, he ran for Claremont City Council, earning the confidence and votes of nearly 500 city residents. Additionally, as a college student, he worked as an intern at the International Creative Management talent agency in Los Angeles.  Following UCLA, his sense of fairness and justice led to an interest in law. He went on to graduate from law school with a J.D. and seamlessly passed the bar the first time, followed by obtaining a LL.M (Master of Law) in Entertainment Law from Southwestern. He loved working in the entertainment industry at various studios, including Universal, Disney, Warner Bros, etcetera.

Jeffrey was sweet and sentimental, and overcame shyness and an introverted nature in order to network and pursue his desired career. He was funny and was a talented artist, creating various characters, paintings, drawings, and cartoons since he was a child.

One of his paintings was titled, “I Love L.A. and I Always Will,” which is why it is quite fitting that the family has decided to inter his ashes at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, with the Hollywood sign and Paramount Studios water tower within view, surrounded by other talented personalities and artists including two of the Ramones, Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, Looney Tunes’ Mel Blanc, Judy Garland, etcetera. His remains will be across from Victor Fleming, the director of The Wizard of Oz.

Jeffrey is survived by his parents Jeffrey M. Carman and Nancy Carman, his sister Dr. Courtney Carman (CHS Class of 1998), his sister Emily Carman-Benner (CHS Class of 2002), and his brother-in-law Daylan Benner. He is also survived by his grandmother Julie Carman and other family members.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.

There will be a memorial service for Jeffrey on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in the Abbey of the Psalms at 2 p.m.

Address: 6000 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90038
