Stanton "Stan" Gage Baum - Class Of 1938

Stanton Stan Gage Baum

 

Stanton "Stan" Gage Baum was born on Oct. 14, 1920, and attended Claremont elementary schools through Claremont High School.
 
He was the grandson of L. Frank Baum, author of the Wizard of Oz.
 
Stan enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He was a second lieutenant in the motor transport division. Stan served in the European, African and Middle Eastern campaigns, and was discharged in 1944.
 
He owned four restaurants: two in Pomona, one in La Verne and one in Upland. After selling the restaurants, Stan was an owner-operator in Pipeline Trucking.
 
Stan and his wife, Gweneth, were married for 59 years. Living in Pomona, then Upland before retiring to Spring Valley Lake, where they lived for the past 12 years. 
 
Stanton Baum died on Aug. 16, 2006. He is survived by two daughters, Janet Ware and her husband, Stanley, and Margaret Smeltzer and her husband, Randy; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Ware, Ryan Ware, Joyce Smeltzer and Jason Smeltzer. There will be no services.
