Janice "Jan" Marie Sigler (Williams) - Class Of 1968

Janice Jan Marie Sigler (Williams)

Dec 29, 1950 - Nov 1, 2016

Janice (Jan) Marie Sigler Williams was born on December 29, 1950, in Laurel, Mississippi to Mary Farish Sigler and Robert Roscoe Sigler. She passed away, peacefully, on November 1, 2016, in St. Louis, Missouri, after 2 months of sudden critical illness.

Her only sister, Kathy, was born in 1952. Their mother tells a funny story that Jan, precociously independent and good at getting what she wanted, did not ever want to sleep in her crib. That is, until Kathy was born, and then she said, “My bed, my bed!” Jan and Kathy were not only sisters, but they were also lifelong close friends.

Jan’s father’s work in the oil business took the family to many different residences in Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana, and California during their growing up years. Jan graduated from Claremont High School in 1968, young for her class, very smart, fiercely independent, and intent on adventure. Upon graduation she immediately enrolled in California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Her father always claimed she was majoring in “moon gazing and anarchy" at Cal Poly!

During her 20s, Jan worked as a “waitress,” a “ski bunny,” a bank teller and a real estate agent. She had a lot of fun and many friends, living mostly in California during that time. Her oldest daughter, Jessica, whom she shared with her first husband, Jon Coffin, was born in 1978. Jan was a totally devoted, loving mom from the start. She never quit being that way.

Jan moved to St. Louis, Missouri, in her early 30s. Her parents were so proud of her when she graduated with a 4.0 from Maryville University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems. With that degree, she went to work for Southwestern Bell in downtown St. Louis, where she made great friends and excelled in the early days of information technology support. Her youngest daughter, Megan, whom she shared with her second husband, Charlie McCoy, was born in 1987. Jan was delighted and thankful.

In 1993, Jan married her perfect partner and the love of her life, Hill Williams. Together, they loved to plan, read good books, relax in their “treehouse” as Jan called it, watch birds from their deck, and spend time with their family and friends. Jan also was a shopper and loved finding bargains. She and Hill also enjoyed traveling together.

In her retirement (as always), Jan was the ultimate project manager, and generous with her time. She spent much time and energy at Visitation Academy and the Assistance League of St. Louis. At both organizations she was involved in many activities, but was especially proud of her work promoting endowment funding and Operation School Bell. She enjoyed projects and did them well, making many friends along the way. She also especially enjoyed her book club with her Viz friends. She was a lifelong student of the Holy Bible and its teachings entered her life in many ways.

Jan delighted in becoming a grandma, or “Mamaw,” and was so devoted to her grandchildren. She loved them well and was a valiant promoter and dealer of treats for the children! “I wanna give that baby a lollipop!” That’s a direct quote. She got this wish.

She is survived by her husband, Hilliard (Hill) L. Williams; her mother, Mary Farish Sigler; her two daughters and sons-in-law, Jessica and Pat Garrett, Megan and Alex Baker; her two step-daughters and their husbands, Julia and Keith Given, Diane and Randy Jordan, and one step-son, David Williams. She had 3 grandchildren, Eli, Owen and Vivien Garrett; and 6 step-grandchildren, Hillary and Jessi Given, Adam, Anna, Michael, and Maria Williams. She will also be dearly missed by her sister and brother-in law, Kathy and John Smith, her nieces, Robbi Price, Jamie Weber, Melanie Sanford, and Tiffany Johnson, along with 8 great nieces and nephews. Her best friend of over 45 years, Patty Axenroth, was like a sister to her. Jan will be loved and missed by her entire family and many friends. Jan was preceded in death by her father, Robert R. Sigler and by her beloved dog, Winifred T. Pooh.

A visitation for Jan will be held from 2- 5pm Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Schrader Funeral Home, 14960 Manchester Rd., Ballwin, MO, 63011
