William Lloyd "Bill" Hardy - Class Of 1938 VIEW PROFILE

William Lloyd "Bill" Hardy, a 70 year resident of Claremont died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at the age of 81. Bill was born in Birmingham, Alabama on May 1, 1921. 

He came to California at the age of 7 and settled in Claremont with his parents, John and Alberta Hardy. He attended Sycamore Elementary School and was on the football and baseball teams at Claremont High School, where he was in the Class of 1938. 
 
He spent two years working in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Bill married the former Beulah Sanders of Claremont in 1941 and they became the parents of 3 children. After the war, Bill worked for Douglas Aircraft for 7 years and then for over 30 years as a finish plasterer. He was a gold card member of Plasterers' Local 200 with 56 years of membership. He attended the Granite Creek Community Church in Claremont. 
 
Bill is survived by Beulah "Bea" Hardy of Claremont; a daughter, Marcia and son-in-law, George Redmond of Claremont; daughter, Barbara and son-in-law, Joe Gillentine of Yorba Linda; a son, William L. Hardy II and daughter-in-law, Diane of Rialto; a brother, Dr. John Hardy and his wife, Carole of Seabeck, Wash.; nine grandchildren, Chris, Jenny, Jamie, Jeff, Ben, Julie, Cristina, Colin and Caity; and seven great-grandchildren, Maddi, Mia, Lexie, Josiah, Joy, Jeff Jr. and one in the oven. 
 
Bill loved the outdoors and for many years enjoyed walks and outings in Bonelli Park with his family. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to erect a bench in his honor at Bonelli Park. Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 17, 6-8 p.m. at Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona. Memorial service will be Tuesday, Feb. 18, 11:30 a.m. at Granite Creek Community Church, 1580 N. Claremont Blvd., Claremont. Interment following at Oak Park Cemetery, Claremont. Todd Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

William Lloyd Hardy was a Navy veteran stationed at Moffett Air Field, California, in 1945. He was on his way to war and got as far as the Hawaiian Islands when the war was over and he got to come home.

Lloyd played football for Claremont High Schools, class of 1938.
 
He married Beulah “Bea” Sanders, class of 1941. She was born and raised in Claremont. They have three children, all graduated from Claremont High:

            Bill Hardy, 1969
            As well as son-in-law, George Redmond, 1960.
 
George married Marcia and they have three children, all Claremont High graduates:
           
            Christopher Redmond, 1986
            Jeffrey Redmond, 1993
            Julie Redmond Ray, 1997
 
Barbara Hardy married Joe Gillentine. They have three children, Jamie, Jennifer and Ben. They graduated elsewhere.
 
Bill Hardy married Diane. They have three children, Kristine, Collen and Katie, all graduated elsewhere.

There are twenty great-grandchildren and three more expected in February and March 2012
