Joanne was born July 29, 1929 in Claremont, CA to Nea Burke Yerkes and Raymond Yerkes; passed away Feb 21, 1999. Graduated from Claremont High School and Chapman College in L.A.; moved to San Diego and married Walter Price, whom she had met in college, in 1951; they became members of University Christian Church in S.D. that year. Much of her life included surrounding herself with nature; Joanne enjoyed backpacking, hiking, service projects, archaeological digs, and Elder hosteling. Joanne and another church member opened University Christian Preschool in 1970; she served as its director from 1974 until her retirement in 1991. She is survived by her husband, Walt; two sons, Jay and Wayne Price; a daughter, Wendy Corley; a grandson, Ian Corley; son-in-law, Arnold Corley, daughter-in-law, Kim Carpender; a brother, Robert Yerkes; two sisters, Barbara Lumley and Raylene Kurtz, and a sister-in-law, Ruth Severns. Over the years, Joanne also served as host mother to four others, three being foreign exchange students. Memorial services will be held Sunday, February 28 at 4:00 P.M., University Christian Church, 3900 Cleveland Ave., S.D.
