Malcolm Red Ellswood Corson

Jul 18, 1929 - Jan 22, 2015

Lieutenant Detective Malcolm "Red" Ellswood Corson, Jr. (retired) was born July 18, 1929 in Pasadena, CA to parents Malcolm and Rowena Corson (deceased) and was raised in Claremont, CA, living in Pomona Valley all of his life. Known affectionately as "Red" he took great pride at being a California native, descendant of the local Corson and Chaffey founding families. A graduate of Claremont High School in 1947, he lettered in Baseball and Football as well as creating a reputation for being a prankster and ladies man.

In 1948 "Red" enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard a submarine as a proud cook. While stationed on the East Coast he met and married the love of his life, his loving wife of 66 years, Carmen Constance Perron Corson who bore him three children. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Red and Carmen relocated back to Southern California where he landed his dream job as a police officer with the Claremont Police Department, quickly rising through the ranks to the position of Lieutenant. He loved being a peace officer and it was with great regret that he was forced into early retirement due to a job related injury.

Red died peacefully at home on January 22, 2015 after a long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife Carmen, son Gary, daughter Collenette and her husband Tony Vervloet, grandson Julian, as well as many friends and relatives. His son Greg preceded him in death.

A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady Of The Assumption Catholic Church, 435 Berkeley Avenue, Claremont, CA on February 7th at 10:00am. A reception will follow at The Fountains Mobile Home Park clubhouse, 3530 Damien Avenue, LaVerne, CA at 11:30am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the charity of your choice , or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
