David Vernon Clarridge

Jun 24, 1945  -  Mar 19, 2007

David V. Clarridge passed away on March 19, 2007 at his home in Seattle from cancer.

David was born in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada on June 24, 1945, to Vernon and Gladys (Metcalfe) Clarridge. With his parents and two sisters, he reluctantly emigrated to California in 1955. He graduated from Chaffey Jr. College and earned a BA in political science from George Washington University where he met Judie Attick. They were married on June 3, 1967, and moved to Seattle in 1969. David served in Vietnam with the US Army. He received a BS in Accounting from the UW and worked as a CPA. He was also a production accountant in the film industry, including the "Northern Exposure" and "Law and Order" television shows.

Among his joys in life were his family and friends, including his wife, Judie; daughter, Siobhan King; and son, Joshua Clarridge; his grandchildren, Matthew Hall, Taylor Clarridge, and Kennedy King. Also, his mother, Gladys Clarridge of Issaquah, and sisters, Donna Case of Bellevue and Debra Sage of Wichita, KS. And, nephews, James and Edward Case, and Jason and Jeremy Sage. Other much-loved family members are Bernie and Gail Hall who adopted Matthew.

A man of many interests, he was a windsurfer, avid baseball fan, and had recently learned to play the folk harp. But, his passion in life was black and white photography, particularly using his pinhole camera. He greatly valued the friendship of the members of Group f/5.6. In 2006 he fulfilled a lifelong dream of taking photographs in the highlands of Scotland. He was a warm, kind, and generous man, and cared greatly for other people and for the environment. He was active in Fremont Baptist Church's sponsorship of Mien refugee families from Laos and told great stories of teaching the young men to drive. As an active member of Seattle First Baptist Church, he was a strong supporter of the Earth Charter and eco-spirituality programs. His most recent volunteer projects, shown in the memorial information below, were the Hazel Heights P-Patch community garden being developed in the Fremont district and Seattle First Baptist's construction of buildings at the Deborah's House shelter for victims of domestic violence in Tijuana. The tremendous love and support of David's church, neighborhood, and photographer friends during his illness was deeply appreciated.

A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, March 31st, at 11:00 a.m. at Seattle First Baptist Church, 1111 Harvard Avenue, Seattle 98122. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the P-Patch Trust, 4211 2nd Avenue, NW, Seattle 98107; and Seattle First Baptist Church (Deborah's House) at the address above.
