Thomas Jeffrey Norin - Class Of 1976

Thomas Jeffrey Norin

Oct 13, 1957 - Dec 9, 1981

The following was written by Scott Norin at the age of 13 and dedicated to his brother, Tom:

Tom was born in Pacific Beach, CA shortly after the family's arrival there. When he was one year of age we bought a home in Poway where Tom attended grammar school and part of Jr High. He also met his best friend, Jeff Green, there. Jeff lived next door with his folks, Frank and Jenny, also our good friends. Tom belonged to Indian Guides with his dad. He also started to exhibit his love for the out- of- doors while we lived in Poway.

In 1970 we moved to Walnut for a year and then bought in Claremont where Tom finished
middle and high schools. He worked at odd jobs, bought his first car, dated his first girl friend and continued his hiking, shooting and other outdoor adventures. Upon completion of high school he drove across the country and spent time with the Greens in Vermont. Upon his return he went into real estate school, got his license and worked for Century 21 while living in his own apartment in Upland.

Later he moved to Redding and engaged himself in buying land out of state and selling it in California. He lived with Cathy Davis, still a close friend of ours, and then Pam, another sweet girl. Tom died of drowning in Elko County, Nevada, while on a business trip. A memorial service was given for him by Pam and Kathy in Redding at a sidewalk church he had been attending .

As was stated on a poster we found on Tom's wall, "You only live once but if you live right, once is enough" Tom lived right.

Thank you , Scott for such a beautiful memory! I was Tom's first girlfriend and he was my first love as well.  We were together all thru high school and off and on after.

The last time that I saw Tom, he had come to visit me in 1979. ( I can remember it like it was yesterday!)

One evening, I was at Marie Calendars in Claremont to pick up some food when I ran into Debbie Hunter who told me of Tom's passing.  The next day,. I called his father.

He will always be in my heart.

I still miss you, Tom.
