Katherine Ann Karber (Kittinger) 57, died Sep 1, 2005 at Hoag Hospital of an aortic dissection. A third generation Californian born in Pomona, California, she graduated from Claremont High School in 1965. After graduation from the University of Puget Sound, she taught elementary school in Washington for four years before moving to Pasadena.

At 33, she suffered a heart attack and fifteen years ago was UCLA's heart transplant 172. She always felt that this second chance at life meant she had to live life fully and independently. In spite of her health problems, she worked as a mail carrier/clerk for the Pomona Post Office for 25 years.

Ten years ago, she moved to Irvine and made the drive to Pomona until retirement in 2003. Known for her love of books, she was an active volunteer at the Friends of the Library.

She's survived by her parents, Frank and Julia Kittinger ,sister, Linda Snetsinger; brothers, John and David Kittinger; two nieces, Kimberly Williams and Christina Snetsinger: three nephews, Jason, Michael and Steven Kittinger: three great nieces Mandie and Josie Williams, Isabella Snetsinger: and two great nephews, Joseph Snetsinger and Jackson Kittinger. Her father, Frank William Kittinger, is a 1939 graduate of Claremont High School.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Library Bookstore, 4512 Sandburg Way, Irvine, CA 92612. Her family will hold a memorial life celebration on Nov. 12, 2005. She is greatly missed by her family and friends.
