Our brother, Tony, passed away after a brief illness on January 19, 2009 in Metairie, Louisiana.

He was the beloved grandson of Joseph Arthur Heyer and Barbara Latt Heyer of Chunchula, Alabama, John Henry Draime and Anna Belle Turner Draime of Citronelle, Alabama. He joins his parents, Raymond Arthur Heyer and Anna Mae Draime Heyer and his brother Michael Arthur Heyer of Mobile in heaven.

Tony's memory will be kept alive by his sisters, Ramona Ann Inkel of Pensacola, Florida; Barbara Heyer Klafta of Pleasant Hill, California; Loretta Heyer Sagers of Winter Springs, Florida; Rebecca Heyer Nielsen of Helena, Montana; and Dr. Deborah Heyer Mirch, M.D. of Douglas, Wyoming. He is also survived by his brother Benedict Heyer of Kerrville, Texas and Richard Heyer of Benicia, California. He leaves behind his two children, Michelle and Ethan, and two grandchildren Rowen and Breu.

Tony will be remembered for his love and care of children, especially his nieces, nephews, daughter, son and grandchildren; his passion for all things historical and his loud cheers for the Crimson Tide, San Francisco 49'ers and the New Orleans Saints; and his Sunday evening attendance of Mass at Saint Ann's Catholic Church.

Tony proudly served in the California National Guard, 40th Armored Division, and was mobilized for both the Watts and Berkeley Riots of the 1960's. Tony attended Little Flower, St. Ignatius, and McGill High School in Mobile. While residing in Sunset Hills, he lived on the same street as his friend Jimmy Buffett and knew his little sisters Laura and Luci.

He graduated from California State University at Sacramento. He worked for the Westinghouse Corporation to help construct the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system in San Francisco, with a heating and air conditioning firm that installed the original equipment for the Superdome, and then as both a purchasing agent and manager for shipping industries in New Orleans, finishing his career with Gulf Fleet Marine.

He was 65. A memorial service and gravesite dedication is planned for this July at the Mobile Catholic Cemetery.
