Julie Christine Weldon

Mar 31, 1963 - Nov 1, 2014

Julie Christine Weldon was born on March 31, 1963, the youngest of four children to Alvin and Phyllis Weldon. She was raised in Baldwin Park. When she was a teenager, she and her parents moved to Claremont where she graduated from Claremont High School. Julie then attended Scripps University where she earned her Bachelors degree in music. She continued her education in Boston at the New England Conservatory of Music, earning her Masters Degree in music. After graduation Julie returned to California to be near to her family. She tried several jobs, looking for what she would enjoy doing for her career. Julie applied for a teaching position with the Los Angeles City School District as a teacher and found her calling. She taught elementary school for several years in LA.

In 2001 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She endured the chemotherapy and radiation treatments for a year, after which the cancer went into remission for 5 years.  During this time, Julie felt a strong desire to be closer to God. She searched different religions and found that the Catholic faith was what she needed in her life. She converted to Catholicism and found much comfort in this religion. She then applied to Saint Sebastian School, a private Catholic institution in West Los Angeles, where the children were taught in a way she believed, unlike the public school. She was very happy at Saint Sebastian, and was well regarded among the staff and students.  Julie always loved music and tried to share her love with as many of her family and friends as she could. She gave performances at many public venues to the delight of her audiences. She sang at weddings and funerals, and other occasions.

A few years ago she began to have pain in her leg, which was eventually the cancer had spread to her bones. Again she had to endure painful chemotherapy and radiation to fight the disease. None of the therapies was successful in stopping the cancer, but she never gave up on doing whatever her oncologist would recommend for her. In the end the cancer had spread to her liver.

On November 1, 2014, she lost the battle she had fought so valiantly. She was at home with her sister, Barbara Gandy, and cousin, Sharon Wenger, by her when the merciful end arrived.

Julie is survived by her loving older sister, Barbara Gandy, and two older brothers, Ralph Weldon and David Weldon, plus their families and two surviving aunts and many cousins.
