What subject(s) did you teach at CHS and when?

I was a member of the CHS Faculty from 1953 to 1960. Taught biology, general science, French. Also a counselor for three years. In 1960 I left CHS to teach at what is now Cal.State Univ.Fullerton in the Dept of Biology(1960-83).

Comments:

In 1960 I left CHS to teach at what is now Cal. State University Fullerton in the Dept.of Biology (1960-1983). That was the first year of this new state campus. In 1964 I became chairman of the Dept. of Science and Math Education, in 1977 I became Assoc. Vice president for University Research until 1982. I also had an interest in our state's energy dilemma and became Director of the Cal. State Univ. System Statewide Energy Consortium until 1993. I retired from the university system in 1983.

School Story:

My fondest memories were week long pack trips to the High Sierras with students during the summers (I was a summer ranger-naturalist at Zion, Bryce and Yosemite National Parks for 6 years before coming to Claremont). These trips were interspersed with weekend and three day skin diving trips to Catalina ( I was the skin diving/ scuba diving club sponsor). During the winter my wife and I took students to Green Valley Ski resort and taught them to ski. We also took them to Mammoth for the Easter week. (I was also the ski club sponsor).
Sounds like all I did was "play", not true, teaching was a great treasure to me. I enjoyed my time at CHS and hope my students learned and enjoyed science.

Thank you for remembering your teacher of long ago. To even be remembered as one of your teachers after 55 years brings a tear to my eyes. I truly treasure my days at CHS with you.
