Obituary: "Chilliwack Progress"

We are saddened to announce that W. Terrence (Terry) Plummer, late of Lindell Beach, BC, passed away on December 1, 2020 at the age of 81, after an 8 year battle with dementia. He was born April, 22, 1939 in Long Beach, CA and grew up in Claremont, CA where he excelled in academics (America’s Who’s Who), played football in high school (winning the California state championship) and college.

He met his future wife, Judy (Lobb) of Rosedale, BC while in college and they were married in December 1961. After serving 3 years in the US Army, mostly in Germany, they settled in Chilliwack, BC in 1966 and he went into business with his father-in-law, Laurie Lobb, in the Rosedale Machine Shop.

He was instrumental in helping design some innovative, large cable tower logging systems. He then formed RMS Industrial Controls (with partner Harry Dunstan) in the early 1980’s, which was one of the first of the Vancouver Wireless Technology cluster companies, where they developed a wireless cellular radio that could be used to control large industrial equipment, such as their logging systems.
RMS-Ross Corporation was started in 1984 on Yale Rd West in Chilliwack and he shifted from logging systems to advanced mining technologies, which took him to remote gold mining sites in over 50 countries.

In 1989, he also joined the medical industry when he formed Pro-Bed Medical Technologies, where they developed an advanced, computerized lateral rotation medical turning bed for immobilized patients. This solved many of the long term health issues of being immobilized and allowed many individuals to remain at home rather than having to go into an institutional setting.

He was always so curious and eager to learn and to develop and create. His business was his hobby and he lived a life of adventure and one that we’re grateful for.
Terry was active in his church and enjoyed being a part of many of the Centreville Christmas Productions at the Chilliwack Alliance Church as a gift for the community. God blessed him with many skills and abilities that he was happy to share with others.
He was passionate about people, ideas, points of view and always had much to add to conversations. He was a larger than life personality who loved his family and worked hard to give them a full life of adventure when growing up. He was a friend to all, loved to laugh, a famous hugger and a serial entrepreneur.

He was predeceased by his parents, Walt and Doris Plummer, his brother Steve (at age 12), his infant daughter Lisa and two sisters, Heidi and Cathy. He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Judy, his sons Steve (Helen), Scott (Angie) and Shawn (Lindsay), 9 grandchildren….Nicholas, Zachary, Colton, Carmel, Sierra, Lauren, Max, Jake and Ellie….and his sister Rosie (Richard) Francisco of San Clemente, CA and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. We know his soul is singing “How Great Thou Art” in God’s presence, and our hearts are at peace.

We are so very grateful for the care he received in Valleyhaven Care Home during the last year of Terry’s life and thank his caregivers for their loving care and attention. If you so wish we would appreciate a donation to Food For the Hungry Canada (FH Canada) or a mental health association of your choosing.
