Richard Stuart "Woody" Woodrum, 59, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Havasu Regional Medical Center after a battle with cancer.

Woodrum was born Nov. 18, 1941 in Springfield, Ill., to Jesse and Mabel Woodrum. He moved to Army in September 1960. After three years of service, he re-enlisted in the California National Guard at Fort Irwin. Later he transferred to the Marine Corps Logistics Base. He worked as an optical instrument repairman, earning numerous award certificates. One award earned him monetary value for "sustained superior performance" during the period of Sept. 1, 1982 to Aug. 31, 1983. Woodrum retired Jan. 3, 1997 after 36 years of dedicated and faithful service to the federal government.

He was a longtime resident of Barstow. Woodrum moved to Lake Havasu City in November 2000 to be close to his two brothers and the lake, where he enjoyed fishing. "Woody," as he was known by most who knew him, loved the outdoors, fishing and camping. Two of his favorite places to fish were Panguitch, Utah, for fresh water and Morro Bay for ocean fishing. Woodrum was preceded in death by his parents, who passed away in 1981 and 1984.

Woodrum is survived by his children, Laura Lee Hart of Kent, Wash., Richard James Woodrum of Chino and David Charles Woodrum of Tulare; a stepson, Kevin Ray Togstad of California; brother John L. Woodrum (CHS 1953) and his wife, Margo A., of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; brother Robert J. Woodrum (CHS 1955) and wife, Sandra I., of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren and five nieces and nephews of California and Arizona.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2001 at Lietz Chapel and Funeral Home, 21 Riviera Blvd., Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Interment will be in Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens, 1698 Deer Run Drive, Lake Havasu City. Arrangements were by Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans or The American Cancer Society.
